About Swingline
Founded in 1925 in New York City by Jack Linsky as the Parrot Speed Fastener Company, the company now known as Swingline is located in the rolling hills northwest of Chicago. Currently a division of the ACCO Brands Corporation, Swingline made its reputation over 60 years ago as the first stapler manufacturer to let you pop open the top of the product and drop in the staples. They've been making equally revolutionary developmental strides in stylish office products ever since.

Movie buffs may recall that a Swingline product was featured in the 1999 cult-classic film "Office Space." One disgruntled employee, named Milton, complains repeatedly that his red Swingline stapler was stolen and eventually sets fire to the office building in retaliation. Although at the time Swingline had not manufactured red staplers for years, customer demand was so tremendous that in 2002 they released a limited edition series.

I believe you have my stapler?, February 26, 2006

This review is from: Swingline Limited Edition Series 747 Rio Red Business Stapler (S7074736E) (Office Product)
I was given this stapler as a birthday present last year. I'm a big fan of Office Space, and so it was more of a sentimental gift than a utilitarian one. I was working in a cube farm at the time, and my red stapler provoke many Office Space quotes.

I know this isn't the official red stapler of the movie, as that one was actually spray painted by the props department. However, much like Milton's stapler, it's a good product. It doesn't bind up, crunch paper, or staple funny. And the smooth top and sides make it a comfortable stapler to handle. I have bad hands, and most places I work either have the flimsy plastic staplers that feel like they're going to crush when you staple, or they have the large, clunky staplers with square corners that cut into your hand if you have to squeeze staple. So, while it's funny to think of a stapler as ergonomic, it really it. I also really like that it has ample weight for it's size, and a nice rubberized bottom to keep it from slipping.

Office space jokes aside, this is a stapler worth getting. And hey, if there are any Office Space fans around, they'll appreciate this bright red reminder.

Ergonomically Designed And Easy To Use, July 16, 2005

Everyone at my office has a 747 Series Red Stapler in honor of Milton from "Office Space", but the main reason to get one is that Swingline has more features and a better design than other staplers in its class.

I bought this stapler for nostalgic and practical reasons. A) The movie Office Space (I don't care if it isn't EXACTLY the same, it still reminds me of Milton) B) My unit took these staplers to Baghdad, Iraq. In between being mortared we really enjoyed using our red Swinglines to assemble documents as part of the bureaucracy of war. C) This stapler can double as a weapon in a pinch. It's heavy and would make a good head battering tool if you got into a fight with a co-worker. D) It staples well. The tactile sensation of binding your stack of paperwork with a small folded piece of shiny metal will please you. You just cannot say that about a flimsy plastic stapler. It's not the same feeling.

Good stapler, January 20, 2006
By
impitbosshereonlevel2 "impitbosshereonlevel2" (Merced)
When my company switched from the Swingline stapler to the Boston stapler, I kept mine because it didn't bind up as much and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler. If they take my stapler, I'll set the building on fire

Bought two of these, May 25, 2006

I bought two of these - one for a friend and one for myself.

Aside from just impressing coworkers and fellow Office Space fans, this stapler is actually a good, solid stapler. It's made out of solid metal with a rubber bottom, so it won't slide around. It's very sturdy and you can hit it pretty hard for the thicker stacks of paper. You're more likely to break your hand before you damage this thing.

Overall, I'm very happy with it.

Did you get that memo?, September 14, 2004

You can just go ahead and use this Red Swingline stapler to attach your cover sheet to all of your TPS reports. I'm going to need you to go ahead and come in this Saturday. And I am also going to need to have you come in on Sunday as well; we have lost some people and we sort of need to play catch up. Okay? Thanks!

Better than the Boston, doesn't bind as often, April 12, 2006

I like this one much better, they made us switch to the Boston but that one kept binding, so I kept my Swingline and I used to sit over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, but now they moved me here and I don't know why I cannot enjoy my radio at resonable levels between 9 and 11 am when she can listen between 9 and 11 am. And there was salt, great big grains of salt, and I wanted a pina colada but they brought me a margerita and i could take my american express travelers checks somewhere else. The ratio of people to cake is falling. . . .

It's red. And it staples. And you get to think about the Office Space movie every time you staple something. Doesn't get any better than this!

Thanks Office Space!, March 24, 2010
By
Kort "Art, Music, Book & Movie Enthusiast" (Boca Raton, FL, United States)
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)  (VINE VOICE)
The first red Swingline stapler made it's appearance in Mike Judge's movie Office Space. I have to say that both the movie and stapler are great. An interesting bit of trivia: -- there was no such thing as a red Swingline stapler when the movie was made. The prop department spray painted a black model. But high demand from fans of the movie prompted Swingline to release a red model in 2002. They were a bit behind the times since other companies had colored staplers much earlier (Bates Colormatics for one).

Okay, it looks neat and is a conversation piece, but does it work? Yes, so far. There's nothing I hate more than a stapler that always jams. It was a gift, and replaced a generic black model in office. It uses the same common #4 staples so there's no need to invest in a new box if you already have a supply of them. It is billed as a "Collector's Edition", but heck, these things were made to be used. Enjoy!
